A multi-instrumental instructor, Stephen Bell started playing trumpet in 1968. In 1974 he added trombone and euphonium, then rounded out the instruments he teaches by adding flute in 1990. He taught instrumental music at Woodside Elementary (4-8) for two years and then taught music in the San Francisco Unified School District (3-6) for twenty-seven years. He has recently retired, but continues his private studio instruction, as he has done for the last 30+ years. He has played with various groups in styles ranging from 30’s/40’s style dance bands to jazz and concert bands, rock/funk/soul bands and pit orchestras for musical productions. Among the groups he has performed with are Times Creation and The Golden Gate Radio Orchestra. He has also been a featured trumpet soloist at various holiday productions at Bay Area churches over the years. He, and his wife, can often be heard performing as the Harp-Flute duo Harp’s Delight at the Rose Garden in San Mateo’s Central Park.
